Selena Gomez's Facebook Hacker Jailed for 12 Months

Selena-Gomez's-Facebook-Hacker-Jailed-for-12-Months

Tween pop star and budding Spring Breakers actress Selena Gomez can rest a little easier now that the man behind her Facebook hacking last year has been put behind bars.

Back in January of 2011, Gareth Crosskey, a British teenager who worked at McDonald's, posed as Selena's stepfather and got a representative from the social networking site to change her password. Once done, Gareth began an anti-Justin Bieber assault on her page, which happened to be linked to her Twitter, thus sending out a multitude of hateful tweets and updates, like "Oh yeh, Justin Bieber sucks" to Selena's thousands of followers.

At the time of the hacking, it was unknown whether Selena and Justin were truly an item, so the fake anti-Bieb tweets caused quite an uproar amongst legions of Beliebers.

Not stopping there, Gareth tattled on himself by uploading a YouTube video boasting about his actions, contacting several gossip outlets to offer information about the new romance and even reaching out to Selena's real stepfather.

While in court, Gareth attempted to make the hacking look noble, saying his intentions were to help Facebook tighten security, arguing it was too easy to hack people's accounts.

Judge John Price was not amused or impressed, however, and sentenced him to 12 months in jail as punishment for violating the UK's Computer Misuse Act.
