Reese is the ambassador for the Speak Out Against Domestic Violence campaign.
Actress Reese Witherspoon has talked openly with her kids about Rihanna being violently attacked by ex-boyfriend
Chris Brown to teach them about domestic violence.
OK! magazine report the 'Legally Blonde' star and global ambassador for the Speak Out Against Domestic Violence campaign, decided to talk to her daughter Ava, 12, and eight-year-old son Deacon about what happened between the pair.
Reese - who previously revealed she has had friends who were victims of abuse - says it is important for children to be informed about the issue.
She told People magazine: "My daughter knows what happened (with Rihanna and Brown). My son knows as well. We talk about what is abuse. I think it's important to talk to our daughters - and our sons - in order to educate them at an early age about what's appropriate and what is absolutely not acceptable.
"We talk about domestic violence and what that means. Although the concept is somewhat foreign to them, they're starting to understand that this happens to families in our country and all throughout the world."
